Because they tend to make the foreground appear disproportionately larger than the background, wide angle lenses can be used to create some very dramatic photographs. These lenses can also have very extensive depth of field, which is really a requirement for an image like this one. For this image from Mt. Nebo State Park just outside Dardanelle, Arkansas, I used a 14mm lens. Holding the camera about a foot from the foreground rock formation and focusing about five feet into the frame using the smallest aperture on the lens provided the necessary depth of field to ensure the entire image would be sharp. One of the things I like about this picture is how the clouds seem to have the same contour and texture as the foreground rocks. My settings were 1/125 sec, f/22, 200 ISO.
