I noticed this stand of water tupelo trees yesterday morning as I was traveling a back country road in a small town not far from my home. I was not looking for a scene like this when I first saw it, so it took me a few seconds to realize what I was passing by. Fortunately, I had only driven a few hundred feet down the road when the situation “dawned” on me, and I quickly turned around.
There are two things I like about this image. The first is the contrast between the trees that are being directly lit by the rising sun and the darker background. This draws the viewer’s eyes to the subject and is what originally attracted my attention. The second is that the water around the trees is so still and calm that it creates an almost mirror perfect reflection.
