It’s frustrating when you want to fill the frame with your subject but your lens isn’t long enough and you can’t get any closer. Cropping the image later is an option, but crop too much and resolution suffers terribly. But, now there’s Gigapixel AI by Topaz Labs. This standalone program allows cropped images to be re-enlarged with incredible sharpness and resolution. These two images are a perfect example of what the program can do. The shot on the left was an image I made of some high-rise buildings in Austin, Texas. I was fascinated with the patterns and designs and wanted them to fill the frame. Unfortunately, the lens I had with me wasn’t long enough to create the photograph I wanted. Cropping the image would have made the picture useless. So, it sat on my computer collecting “digital dust” for years. Using Gigapixel AI, I was able to re-enlarge the cropped photograph to its original size with absolutely amazing detail, sharpness, and resolution. The result is the picture on the right, which is what I had envisioned all those years ago.
