First Light

Some of the most brilliant colors often occur just before sunrise and just after sunset. When clouds are present, stunning pictures can be created. I photographed this colorful scene from Two Rivers Park located on the banks of the Arkansas River in Little Rock, Arkansas. I arrived well before sunrise and used the time to scout the area for compositions. Finding this location that provided me with a clear, unobstructed view of the Arkansas River and the Interstate 430 Bridge, I set up my camera and waited as the sky began to brighten, and the clouds began to take on the beautiful colors and hues.  I used a wide angle lens to open up the scene to capture the feeling of peace and tranquility that I felt. After I shot this image, the sun began to appear over the horizon. Within minutes, the brilliant colors began to fade, the clouds began to thicken, and the magic disappeared. My settings were 24mm, 1.3 sec, f/22, 200 ISO.
