Be Prepared

I can’t even begin to count how many amazing images I have missed over my 35-plus years of photography because I just can’t seem to learn one simple lesson – always have my camera with me and ready to use. I almost missed getting this picture of a barn and developing thunderstorm because I didn’t have my camera with me. Anyone who knows about summer thunderstorms in Arkansas knows they can come and go in the blink of an eye. When a scene like this happens, you may only have a few minutes to capture it, so you have to be prepared. Fortunately, I was lucky enough that I was able to get back to my hotel room, get my equipment, and get back to the location in time to make this image albeit with a lot of unnecessary hurry and worry. Using a 24-105mm lens, my settings were 58mm, 1/160 sec, f/22, and 200 ISO.
